the throttle response on the S2 is very slow ie hesitant , when putting the throttle down just a bit there is a bit of lag for about a micro second when pulling away , its ok at speed just when pulling away or when going off the throttle and then on again , does the throttle position sensor controll this and is there as way of curing it or could it be somthing else.

Could be the trottle pot but I had the same problem on the old car, when we checked the co it was running well rich and after we adjusted it the problem had gone.
BTW if the co was too lean it could also cause a flat spot.
The adjustment for mixture did appear to be on the top airflow meter and the co was 3.9 which is why it failed the MOT, thankfully it adjusted back to 1.5

Is it running rich ? How does it tickover and at what speed ?

Mine started with similar symptoms and got progressively worse. Although I tinkered with connectors and and other sensors, the biggest culprit was the top Air Flow Meter. Its sensor wire sits in a plastic cowling and gets gunked up. A bit of carb cleaner on mine worked wonders.

Throttle Pot, no doubt about it.... Had exactly the same thing myself about two weeks ago.

I've had the same problem and it can be down to a few factors... just as a check, see if you've got any air leaks on the exhaust system, mine had a few on the clamps and it was causing a loss of back pressure and hesitation on the throttle.

Alternatively, the usual suspects - throttle pot and air flow meters

idle speed is about 800rpm and very steady and it pulls like a train right up to the red line ,does not appear to be running rich as the plugs say all is well , just a bit hesitant when on light throttle openings .

Unplug it and see if it still misses.

Could be throttle linkage, mine had the same problem....new (different shape) linkage sorted it
