Pretty sure this is a known car?
This advert is quite a contrast to the last one with lots of detail

The S2 is the one to have. An S (2.8) may look the same and be just as pretty but is a far inferior car, not only does the S2 have a far superior and far more powerful 2.9 engine (170 Bhp instead of 150 Bhp!). The chassis and suspension on the S2 is also improved reducing weight transfer and ‘dipping’ (squat) under acceleration, greatly improving grip and handling!
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. O....K.Austin doesn't do squat
( S2 trailing arms fitted.)
And I think the S1 has a better soundtrack
I do have to concede that the 2.9 breathes better and has more grunt.
But hey, they are all fab cars. I luvvem all!
Not sure where Drak ula gets the "better chassis" from???
And the handling of any S can be sorted to individual taste by fitting different springs & dampers and getting a proper geo set-up.
Oh, and decent tyres of course....

The S1 and S2 are very similar. Chassis is the same, except for the mounting bits used to mount the injection systems, and on very early S1s, the saddle mounts for the rear end of the body differed slightly. Also, the earliest S1s didn't have an aperture for the fuel supply hose to pass through, so it had to run under the chassis - not ideal. That's only very early cars though, and most S1 cars don't suffer that.
Rear arms are basically the same, except on some later S2s the rear damper mount was moved slightly. Adjustable-geo arms didn't come in until S3/V8S, though many S1 and S2 cars have had them retrofitted.
As far as engines go, neither are rocket ships. In the real world, an S1 is 140-150bhp, and an S2 150-165bhp. Neither are going to give a BMW 320d a sleepless night, and the determination of the driver in an S1 vs. S2 dual would have a far bigger effect on who won a race
They both sound good; 2.8 is raspy and old school, with pops and bangs. 2.9 is like an off-beat V8 - nicer sounding than some V8 cars IMO. 2.8's got a bit more character, 2.9's a bit more efficient. Either/or, it's no big deal. Get a V8S if you want to notice a real difference in performance.
I'm just being sensitive as I've got an S1, but I drive all manner of S models, all the time (except an S4....have never had one in!) Have lost count of how many I've driven, and the statement I quoted, while being subjective as it's an opinion (ergo, cannot be right or wrong), certainly doesn't represent what I've found.

Phillpot is right - it is drak ulas' car and was owned previously by S2Mike when it lived in Stratford upon Avon.

I was under the impression that trailing arms were re-designed after S1 , changing the geometry, to reduce rear end "squat" under hard acceleration?TurboTony said:

Mike bought it from and sold it back to drak-ula. phillpot said:

Moving to an adjustable damper, as 50% of the cars now out there probably run, makes a much, much bigger difference. The whole S2 being more superior to an S1 argument just doesn't sit with me, and I'm not being butthurt because I've got an S1 - I'm the first to slate it (ask anyone I know!) for its faults, but the difference between an S1 and an S2 on the road, in reality, is electric windows on an S2, and some pops and bangs from the exhaust on an S1.
S3 is where things start improving, but then you pay for it. I like them all
Adrian Venn is the guy to ask regards the arms, he's got the jigs, but as far as I can tell, the only difference is the pickup point of the damper on some S2 cars, which I'm guessing are the later versions.
