New car, new questions
Discussion
Now that I have my V8S there are things I need to know...
I live between Southampton and Salisbury. Who would be my nearest recommended expert for..
Finally, does the Steve Heath "S Series Bible" contain much information relevant to the V8S?
Thanks.
- Call me a cynic if you like, but between viewing the car and taking ownership the fitted CD player mysteriously developed a fault. The owner kindly replaced it with a cassette player but in doing so I think something may have been wired incorrectly because now the spot lights and electric mirrors don't work (I know the mirrors were OK), have you any suggestions where to look first to fix them?

- Servicing
- Replacing or re-sewing of the back window
- Refurbishing of 1 scuffed wheel

Hi I can't reccomend anybody really local to you for servicing but a lot of people go a long way to get David Batty at Guildford to service their cars.
If you do a search, there was a guy at Swindon
who sewed up rear windows and refurbed Targa panels.
Lastly, the bible is more than relevant to the V8S it is an essential buy IMHO
Thanks.
Hi,
Own the S bible and it is a definite must have book very useful.
For servicing I use Peninsula TVR at Exeter which isn't to much of a drive for you looking at the Map. I travel there from south wales always pleased with the service. check out their web site:
www.peninsula-tvr.co.uk.
GAD.

Is it 'Dark' or 'Matter' ? No matter!
Almost certainly the previous owner will have knocked the wires off the little 'joystick' controlling the mirror whilst sliding the head unit cage into the console aperture. (I did exactly the same thing!!! when I changed my radio)
In order to replace them, you need to get 'The Bible' to see how to remove the tunnel console. With that removed/slid back you can get access to the veneered switch panel - and then release the toggle joystick to see which/how many wires are off the back of the joystick...and then replace...but follow the Griff 4.0 wiring diagram in The Bible.
As for the spots/driving lights, I'd check the fuse first and IIRC there is a relay to check as well.
Failing that, drop me a note through my profile and if you wanted we could meet up as I live on the New Forest side of Southampton - I guess about 20-30 minutes from you
Nick.

Sounds like a fuse for the lights. The radio feed is often taken off the lights.
And as someone said the little joystick has probably become disconnected.
If you have the S3 style dash then unscrew the two screws at the back of the transmission tunnel and then lift it up and back carefully.

Hi. I have used E&J Jarvis in Onslow Road, Southampton for servicing and repairs to my S3 for the last 4 years. I know they have also maintained a V8S in recent memory and a Tuscan. They have been in business for over 40 years and in my opinion are reasonably priced.
Hope you get these niggles sorted soon and enjoy your new purchase. I know you won't regret it!

Some other local maintenence centres -
Westover Cars on the other side of Salisbury or Reacing Green @ Ash Vale (nr ish Pompey) who I have now personal knowledge of, and their is a fantastic MG & Healey place at Park Gate, nr Fareham who have do some work on my V8S - they really know the RV8.
Or of course Austec at Crawley/Gatwick, who whilst are not near you but they are
good and worth the journey.

Thanks Nick - electric mirrors OK now. I removed the radio and found that, as you suggested, the previous owner had knocked a wire off the joystick.
Also, now I have the S Series "bible" I realise that I have to be using main beam for the spot lights to work.
Thanks also to those of you who suggested places local to me where I can get my V8S serviced.
