Hello,

My TVR S2 V6 isn't running well. It starts very good but when I give it the beans (above 2500 RPM) it starts to sputter.

The more throttle I give it the harder it sputters. If I accidentily try to pull of in 3rd the car start to sputter severely and stalls, it can't be started for a few minutes.

I've changed the leads, spark plugs, rotor, rotor cap, fuel pump, fuel filtre, and fuel line but nothing seems to work, also the little vacuum hose close to the ignition has also been replaced.

I don't know what it could be.

Please help me!!!!!!

Hello

Are your air flow meters working correctly?

Did you mention the tps ?

Just my thoughts

ECU reset as per Steve Heath book?

It may solve the problem short term and give time to get a proper diagnosis.

could it be the coil?

Sounds to me like it could be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) to me.

I had an issue with the coil on my car, but only when hot. It ran absolutely fine in the cold weather and for the first 10 minutes after initial cold start but spluttered like something very spluttery at any revs when warmed up.

+1 for the throttle pot as a start point.

If you have access to a voltmeter, then measure the voltage from the central pin wrt ground. Should move smoothly between 0.7v and 5v (approx) as you move the throttle.

Worth a try to see how it runs with the TPS disconnected as this should force a limp home mode, but may tell you if that's the problem.

Beyond that, reading codes with a Gunson tester or 'Star tester' would be next step.

Ah, should have checked first. That's the 2.8 with mechanical fuel injection rather then the 2.9 with AFM etc. Someone will be along soon with some suggestions. GreymrJ and others are good on the 2.8.

Hi Thomas wavey
First of all, your S is not an S2 because that is a 2.8 engine, which means your car is an S1 or S1.5.
Your profile is a bit lacking on information, where are you based?

Your engine does not have a throttle position sensor.

The symptoms you describe could be due to various causes:

Possibilities could include:
1. Leaking or porous induction system / vacuum hoses
2. Split rubber boot on the air metering unit.
3. Sticking air metering valve due to dirt or debris ingested from the downstream side of the air filter casing. There are two metal plates inside the air filter box which were held in by soft aluminium rivets: these corrode after some time, then fall out and either get sucked into the engine induction system or just drop out leaving holes that allow dirty unfiltered air into the metering valve. This can cause havoc, as it is an extremely sensitive device.

The above is not an exhaustive list. The K-Jetronic Fuel Injection system is very sensitive to fuel pressure issues if there is any blockage in the fuel supply.

To begin, I would suggest that you run the engine and spray some Bradex Easy Start around the vacuum and induction system and see if the engine RPM increases. If it does, this can guide you to the problem area.

Hopefully Richard ( greymrj ) will be along shortly with further sage advice .

Good luck!

Glen smile

Thanks a lot! I'm based in belgium. New to the scene and rebuilding what seems to be a S1.5 bit by bit.
