14CUX fault code 69?
Discussion
So, I still have problems with my V8S, intermittent misfire, heavy smell of fuel. it has logged a fault code (69) this time, apparently faulty gear selection switch (applicable to Range Rovers and Land Rovers). Ignition cycled, fault code cleared and car running fine again. All usual suspects checked /replaced including new fuel pump , coil, relays etc, injectors just checked and cleaned etc etc etc. Any suggestions as we are running out of ideas? Thanks guys and girls.
Hi Karen, I had an intermittent misfire with my Chim which I eventually tracked down to a faulty plug extender and the TPS that caused a misfire at about 2500rpm. It's a total pain when there is more than one fault and testing the TPS is not easy unless you have an analogue multimeter or, better still, access to an oscilloscope!!!!
Do you have the rovergauge software and lead to help with diagnostics? You say that your ECU is showing a fault code of 69 so I assume you have a code reader of some sort but I would recommend getting RG that will give you 'live' fuelling/airflow data as well as fault codes.

Hi Karen
Are you sure the code is 69? If you're using an old style code reader with the small screen it might it be 59? This is the code for the fuel thermistor out of range. Would that cause the misfire you describe? As above, download the RG software if you haven't already done so and buy a cable off Blitzracing.

I have spares of plug leads, extenders and a few other bits, plus a digital thermometer and cable ties. I had a lot of misfire issues a couple of years ago on my Chimaera, so happy to stop by and have a look.

You will get a heavy smell of unburnt fuel with a misfire.
What, if anything, have you changed recently?
Yep that's exactly what we get. So we've changed fuel pump, coil, ignition amplifier, fuel pump relay, cap and rotae am, injectors cleaned and tested, air flow meter, all the usual suspects. What, if anything, have you changed recently?
Thanks everyone, Joe it definitely said 69 but obviously wrong for my car. We have a few ideas now from here and the forum on Facebook, we're going to swap the air flow meter out again as that was last year and borrow an ecu from powers to see if that's the issue, will update when we know more. If anyone comes up with anything new, give me a shout!

RS-RV8 is available for free now on Google Play Store - don't think it is available for Apple users.

Karen, if you want to try my AFM, just give Dom a ring......its new and will be redundant soon....
I have just helped a 4 litre Chim owner fix such an intermittent misfire - I loaned him a bagful of bits and the rotor arm did the trick, but he also noted a bad connection in the distributor.
Previously a number of us have had misfires from dodgy plug extenders. I had six fail in 6 months

I don't have plug extenders on my S and have replaced the distributor cap etc Previously a number of us have had misfires from dodgy plug extenders. I had six fail in 6 months

These maybe a helpful given the TVR manifold design.
