Getting into reverse gear from cold start .

This morning I took the motor out . For the first time, I experienced 'minor' problems of putting the car into reverse - would not go into reverse, it kept slipping out! And when depressing the clutch kept making 'that grinding the gears' noise. Eventually it went into reverse. After half an hour of driving, no problems with reverse gear or noises! Very smooth changes. Any ideas what this could be?
Is it serious? Guess it doesn't like reverse when the engine is cold!

Old problem that I had on my old S3, I used to put it in 5th or 3rd first or it didn't want to know, particularly from cold.

Funnily enough the new one doesn't do it at all and more mileage, whatever!

I had this problem when I first got my S2, eventually solved it after taking the gear lever gaiter out to clean it...... and it worked perfectly afterwards!

Found the leather gaiter to be a little tight for reverse, and when cold it was even more sensitive and hard to get in (go on Podie, give it your best shot!)

Have since remade the gaiter to be a little moreloose and never had the problems since. I first looked into all sorts of expensive solutions to it, sometimes I think with TVR's you automatically dread the most expensive option! Just goes to show thats not always the case

Just somehow I can't believe that to be the case, but then on the other hand, only yesterday I took the gaiter apart to clean! So then again you could well be right!! `Moral of the story comes to mind - Sometimes it is best to leave things well alone!!!!
