Info: Autohoods quote to supply & fit a new hood

I recently mailed www.autohoods.co.uk/ to get a rundown of the services they offer and prices. Thought I'd share the info I got with the rest of you.

NP. Do you supply the targa/rear sections seperately?
AH. No

NP. Does the rear section include a fitted PVC screen?
AH. Yes

NP. Do you provide a fitting service?
AH. Yes

NP. How much does fitting cost?
AH. £725 including VAT + 1 year guarantee

NP. Do you give car club discounts?
AH. No

Their hood is £390 including VAT & delivery.

Before they were bought out a few months ago they used to sell the targa coverings for approx. £70

They are now owned by the carhood warehouse www.carhood.com/shop_p21.htm

It's a bit much to pay when all you need are the targa coverings to be honest!

I recently put a post up ( last week I think!) re car hoods, about a guy near Swindon doing my targa panels using mohair material costing around £200. The back hood which maybe done next year would cost £430 fitted complete with perspex. At that price it must be better!

I guess that whilst teh price for fitting may seem a bit high, they'll be factoring in all the cars they really struggle with .. some you win and some you lose .. but having fitted hoods in the past (and vowing never to do them ever again) I can fully appreciate why they would want to make it worth their while for fitting... they're a bl**dy nightmare to get right.

On the subject of autohoods & hoods...

I went to autohoods a few years back and they re-roofed my MX-5 (which has now been upgraded to an S3). They did an excellent job for a very reasonable price & were extremely friendly (you were dealt with on a personal level). Seems a shame to me that all these local 'cottage' industries that do well, get swallowed up by larger corporations.

Anyway, I have noticed the rubber seal (that seals between the hood and the top of the drivers and passneger door windows) is pulling away. The hood material itself looks intact. What is the best adhesive to use to stick these back?
