...here we go again.

Think i know the answer before i even ask but here goes anyway.

Car has been running great recently but this morning when i started it up revs went to around 1500 and stayed there. Then after moving out of the drive they went up to around 2000 and stayed steady. I was expecting the usual jumping and hesitation to kick in but no it just ran perfectly okay except for the high revs.
After a couple of miles to see what it was going to do next and with no change i stopped restarted it and it ran fine......TP or something worse ?

Yup, exactly what mine was doing. Starts fine, runs OKish but tickover climbs to 1500rpm until the engine is turned off then on again.

I had a day on mine doing bits and pieces so I don't known specifically what I did that rectified the problem. IMO, though, it sounds like a sensor problem which is rectified when the ECU is reset on restart.

If it helps: I cleaned the connectors on all of the engine top side sensors (Throttle Pot, Air Flow Meters, Idle Speed Control Valve and Engine Coolant Sensor).

Also, dismantled the ISCV and cleaned it and likewise the top AFM. For the latter, remove the airfilter and look for the heated wire inside a plastic shroud behind the air flap. Mine was completely gunked up. Gave it a clean with some carb cleaner and a cotton bud (carefully).

On start up, she ran sweet and has been ever since.

Sounds like the throttle control valve to me, mine did exactly the same. Cleaned it but in the end I had to replace it. approx £70
