Type 9 Gearbox, what's missing?
Discussion
You've probably already Googled images of "Type 9 gearbox" , majority show the opposite side!
However did find this one which shows another switch, similar to reverse light switch? Certainly don't recall having one in my gearbox, can't off hand think what it is for, 99% sure there must just be a "bung" of some sort in there?

Spot on!Thanks Mike, I imagined there must have been a 'bung' of some sort in there once upon a time although It's probably been missing for quite a while. I'm sure i can make up something suitable but just thought I'd ask the question to see if anyone could throw any light on its original purpose.

Here's a photo of the original gearbox from my S2.
Looks like there's a plug in the hole.
That's more like all the other images I've seen where there is a 'blank' in the casting which isn't used on our cars. No idea what's going on with mine and why it should have an open threaded hole. You would imagine if you wanted to cover the hole you would use something similar to a sump plug which would then thread in to place and have no chance of falling out.Looks like there's a plug in the hole.
Mmmm.............. perhaps a sump plug is the solution.
