I pushed the car into the garage and left the ignition on so I could straighten the wheel and left the car with the ignition on for 3 days, needless to say I've got a bat flattery.
I'm not very electricaly minded, could I have knackered it or should it charge up.

I've nicked the battery off my wifes car and it starts and charges so at least I didn't burn out the ignition system or the alternator (I hope)

Any thoughts (apart from me being a prat)

Running a battery completely flat will reduce its capacity but usually isn't catastrophic. It may also upset any alarm/immobiliser you have. Presumably that's OK because you have it running again.

On mine, turning the key one click will unlock the steering without switching the ignition on.

I'm pretty sure my insurance would be invalidated if I left my car unlocked in the garage with the keys in the ignition.

The ideal insurance against this sort of problem is a Priority Start intelligent battery isolator. This protects you from a flat battery whether you leave the lights on, door ajar, ignition on or just leave it with the alarm on for long enough to flatten the battery.

You are right of course as usual, it's only because I leaned in the window to turn the key onto position one that the accident happened.

I know, I'm still a prat!

Thanks Angus, I thought about it but wasn't sure of your house number.

You'll be even more welcome to pop round if you have a spare bell housing and clutch for a Cerb
