Odd Ordinarily it would reek of scam and I'd say run a mile - but he's offering to pay in cash ??
If he does turn up with cash, I would advise getting it out checked by a bank before releasing the keys.
Still smells whiffy though. Chances are you make contact with him, he says 'can't get the cash, will a cheque do', you bank it, it clears (briefly), bank reclaim money, you have no S and no 6k...etc etc

Yes selling up temporarily I'm sad to say. The pressure being applied to get a car with 4 seats has won for the moment. I tried the argument that a Cerbera has 4 seats, but surprisingly it didn't work either.
Still, I see it only as a pause until I buy another Tiv.....just need a couple more promotions!
Sods law, I've just arranged the May meet for the Wilts TVRCC. I'll be there in whatever I'm driving, will I get to see the new V8 then?

He says the car needs to make 600 miles without a problem....I've got visions of him handing me a handful of counterfeit notes and then driving off into the sunset!

I've seen hundreds of scam emails and that doesn't have my alarm bells going off.
Take the usual precautions when selling it - tell him that you'll go to the bank with him to deposit the money etc (and do that) and have someone else around.
Other than that, it just looks like a chap keen on the car whose English isn't great.

Yes it probably is a scam! I have had similar phone cal about the Wedge I had for sale.....followed 2 days later by the same voice inquiring about my Discovery (that is also for sale)!! There is also a scam running where someone from abroad offers you the cash/bankers draft and talks about shipping etc. This is also a scam that very neraly got me when I sold my Cerbera last year. Be very very careful of anyone from abroad/Ireland with so called cash/bankers drafts/cheques etc. Autotraders web site has more info on some of the scams running I believe.
Each time I was asked to email pictures etc aswell. It does all sound very genuine right up to the point where you pay the bakers draft in to your account. They know this takes 9 working days from abroad so they cancel the draft and their accounts after 5 working days (as money shows up as uncleared funds in your account at this point). The first you will know is when the bank says the draft has bounced and you then owe the bank x many thousand and dont have the goods either.

Noticed a snippet in the Sunday Times motoring section, from Norfolk Police, about photographing the buyer alongside the car either with your phone or camera. This was more related to buying cars that may be subject to vehicle cloning and the point was if they are genuine then they will agree to it if they are dodgy then they will be unlikely to agree, try it as it might flush them out.

I have had quiet a lot of "scams" all on the email which I have not replied too...
But I did have a bloke come over from Luxemburg....I was initially warey but he knew what he was looking at and was totally genuine..... I think I scated him off with the realities on running costs (ie not MX5 costs).....
(so I still my little baby) ... so they are not all scamers, I reckon if they make the effort to ring and visit you stand a better chance they are cosher.
Just take all the precautions,
insist on cash to be safe (take Teds advise and cash it prior to release of car)
don't be on your own, security in numbers
don't let them test drive your car on their own
especially if they are on their own, you'll be left with a hire car.
My mate I work with got some scams on his missus fiesta and got sent a Bankers draft from a non existant bank for double the value of the car.... ohhh and it was made out to "My Big Snatch" .... you should have seen some of the things the bloke agreed to because of his lack of understanding of the language.. priceless

Update on the situation is that he is coming to view the car on Saturday, and has apparently owned a Grantura in the past. He seems very genuine and has agreed to all my stipulations regarding cash, etc.
I hope for his sake he sticks to them, otherwise he will have travelled 600 miles for nothing!

Another update: Sold the car to the guy from France yesterday 
. Turns out he is a real enthusiast who once owned Trevor Wilkinson's Grantura II!
He rang me this morning to tell me that he made it to Paris with a grin from ear to ear.
Thanks to everyone on this forum for all your help over the past year. I will keep my eye on it still, and hopefully return one day with another Tiv.

Your car looks miles better than the S3 we saw on friday evening, which is just as well as we were very upset the seller was not able to show us its papers. We really hoped yours was going to be a better one, otherwise we would have driven all that way for nothing !
