My V8 has a set of nitrons.

However, I've realised recently that the ride in the S2 (yes, I've still got it, and yes, it's still for sale) is actually slightly better than the V8 (I renewed the bushes recently but other than that the suspension is standard.

Um, surely this can't be right.
The nitrons were fitted before I bought the V8 - they are about 12 months old.

Any comments appreciated!

Nitrons give a much more progrssive damper adjustment, rather than linear like Avo etc but springs are a major factor and you need the set up that suits you.

My S3 handled well but was as hard as a rock for ride comfort, its a trade off I'm afraid. That was mostly down to springing.

Maybe you need to revisit the spring poundage and a chat with Jools might shed some light on the problem.

Remember that springs are the cheapest part of the set up, particularly if you have Nitrons fitted.

Hmmm. It's true the handling is very good. Thanks for the advice - all makes complete sense.

I'd find out from the previous owner or the history what springs had been fitted, If you work on the principle that the original fitment was probably around 300lb springs or lower, then maybe you could go in the middle if you find that much higher poundage springs had been fitted.

Decent powder coated springs are only £20/£30 depending where you get them from. Just as a matter of interest for all, I got a quote for the original rising rate springs yesterday for somebody, £57.50 plus VAT

For a set of 4, or each.

Yes each, he did offer 15% discount but that is still pretty dear.

Hope you're enjoying the V8S v8_oatz - she was mine for 4.5 years until very recently - was very sad to see her go. Sounds like she has gone to a good home though!

Hi MrC - yep I'm really enjoying the car - any excuse and I'm out, roof down.

Am getting to know it's 'little ways' also. There aren't nearly as many 'little ways' as with the S2, but still a few to get used to. Still, wouldn't have it any other way!

The car has obviously been well looked-after so thank you. I hope to own it for a good few years!

If you get up to S Club Heaven come and say Hello and get re-acquainted!
