Warning - £100 Fine

Just received a £100 fine for 'entering a yellow chevron box without a clear exit' on the A40 into London. I wasn't blocking any traffic as I left the box before the lights turned red but they have photographic evidence. I shouldn't really moan as I agree I did break the highway code but come on £100!!!!!

I'd post that in Speed, Plod & Law and see what they have to say there. I see junctions blocked all the time and have never heard of anyone being fined for it - especially as most A40 drivers would simply drive straight through an S.

Maybe, it just didn't read that way.

I feel for gw1 though. Its just another demonstration of the easy target that the motorist has become.

gw1 knows he did wrong by entering the box and he held his hands up to that. But a 100 quid fine. FFS, hardly fitting of the 'crime' is it ?

I get frustrated when I view the court cases in our local rag and some Joe Scroat is convicted of driving with no licence, tax, MOT or insurance and is given an 80 quid fine and a slap on the wrist. This is a premeditated, conscious act by somebody who is a danger to himself, other motorists and pedestrians.

The law abiding gw1 has what could have been a momentary lapse, enters a yellow box when the exit was not clear and gets 100 quid robbed from his wallet in the process.

Hardly seems right to me, that's all..

Quite true. Cameras catch the law-abiding. If it was chav-scrote in his unregistered, uninsured deathtrap he'd be sticking 2 fingers to the camera.

Last year whilst out on my motorbike, I got cleaned up by a car driver cutting me up on a roundabout. £2000 damage to bike and me in Hospital. Police put it down to "a momentary lack of concentration" on the drivers part. Surely stopping in yellow box could carry the same excuse. Speeding doesn't cos i tried it with mine

Reality check required here. How and why could this possibly be 'the same excuse'??

gw1 didn't run a red light, he didn't cut anybody up on a roundabout, he wasn't speeding, he simply entered an area that he wasn't permitted to stop in.

'A momentary lack of concentration' can have dire consequences - agreed. gw1's doesn't. I just don't see how your example merits comparison.

Comparison is If you can knock someone off a bike and use it then surely it is good enough for any circumstance

The guy in my story done something wrong and got away with it because it would cost money to prosecute. Sadly, camaras dont cost money

Its so easily done entering the yellow box...

You're in traffic its moving so enter the box, then for no apparent reason the traffic stops, you can't go anywhere.

Then the lights change, you are stuck in the middle feeling a prize prick. You just look head trying not to make eye contact with anyone...

Surely thats enough punishment.

If everyone stopped before they entered the box to make sure they could clear the other side, parts of London would be at grid lock.
