S refresh : Update

Finally got my S mapped by Dr. Adams yesterday following the TVR Power upgrade and ACT bits.
The run-in period has been fairly painful.The bloody thing wouldn't idle, which is all the worse as I've an impatient immobiliser, the temp gauge was out of cal, the exhaust is way too low and there was a resonance at 3000rpm. It also didn't feel any quicker than it was before. As you can imagine I've been a worried chap.
So, I took it to Mech Repairs in Cheltenham to get the Mark Adams treatment. Turns out the poor thing was also drowning. The throttle pot was connected the wrong way round and the fuel pressure was 30% above normal so the 'best guess' mapping that Mark had provided was overfuelling. Brian at Mech was mopping Optimax off the floor and squeezing it back in the tank
Once that was sorted out, it was stuck on the rollers. Boy, was that scary
I was sitting in the boot while my P&J was screaming away at full chat - hard to get use to the first time, I was just waiting for it to go bang !
Mark tapped away at his terminal and the bhp figures kept creeping up. The ACT bits were breathing so well he was struggling to get enough fuel in at the top end.
Once he was happy, I took it for a spin. What a difference ! It now has a nice crackle to the exhaust note, smooth up to 3000 rpm and then just takes off all the way past 5500rpm. The idle is sorted, just rough enough to sound menacing. Bloody marvelous ! It's an absolute hoot to drive.
So thanks to Mark and also the guys at Mech Repairs for unleashing TVR Power's good work and ACT's carbonny bits. Top blokes, the lot of them.
Oh yeah, the figures
I haven't got the graphs on this PC but the max bhp on those rollers was 215bhp and about the same torque in lbft. They read about 20% lower than other rolling roads apparently. Mark's Disco reads 223bhp at Mech and 270bhp at Austec, so I guess mine would read about 260ish at Austec. Who knows which one is right ? I'll post the graphs when I can work out how.
Just need to get the exhaust sorted now.

as someone who is seriously considering this treatment in the next few months would you care to comment on the cost?
I also have a 'resonance' (that's the car, not me)at approx 3000 rpm. Did you discover what it was?
Haven't worked out the resonance yet but it has been reduced following the remap - probably because the engine is running smoother and so less vibration. Prime suspect at the moment is the exhaust silencer box as it sits *really* close to the chassis rails. I'm going to try dropping it a bit to see if it clears. Will let you know.

Good to see another V8S knocking on the door of 500 power levels as 220 at Mech is the sort of figure some of them acheive

re the reasonance I think they all do it to a certain extent, did you find the exhaust note changes with mixture, whilst really rich mine is very very bassy. When the tune is spot on it has an angry bark above 3Krpm on full throttle

What's its manners like at low rpm now, found mine is 10x better with the mapped ignition.
BTW what is the engine spec post rebuild

Funny you should say that! Before the remap it sounded like a Spitfire. Now sounds as you describe - barky. The crackles weren't there either. Just sounds 'right'.
It's OK at low revs, little irregular at idle but that makes it sound more serious. The pick-up comes in two steps - the second coming in around 3000-3500. If I could show the torque curve you would see why. Mark did recommend the Omex system - but that's going to have to wait until the coffers are replenished. I'd love to see what difference it makes on yours (hint!).
Not an expert on these things but I understand TVR Power raised the compression by skimming the head, gas-flowed the heads, recut the valve seats with some fancy profile (??) and fitted the Kent 218 cam. That make sense ?
