Hood Bolts & Clutch

Hello Everyone,
I've had my S3 for a couple of weeks now and loving every minute of it! Still waiting for my copy of the bible to arrive, so I'm hoping somebody can help me as I've got a free evening for tinkering with it.
The two bolts that hold the roof to the body are loose.One pinches up and then spins, but I can't seem to find a thread in the offside one at all.Is it a captivated nut?
Also I have to bury the clutch to get it into reverse and it still grinds unless I take it by suprise.Slave cylinder perhaps or can it be adjusted? Any help would be much appreciated.

The bolts, no idea.
The clutch, yes this is a regular question on this forum and many of the cars have to be put into another gear first. From my experiance, try third gear first and then mine dropped straight in.
Also check the fluid level, its a very small pot and if it runs low of course you can get air in it.

Hi & welcome

The two bolts that hold the roof hoop in place have nuts on the other sides of them. I've just had a new window put in my roof, so i had to take it off.

You have to pull up the carpet above the nut, break through the paper tape thats in place and you'll get to the nut. It is important to tighten as its no fun loosing a roof panel at 80mph on a motorway.

Clutch, they all seem to have a degree of trouble with reverse. as stated go into 3rd first,, let the clutch bite, then dip it again & go into reverse, usualluy works well.

Clutch problems, yeah done that. Check your master cylinder for fluid level, and colour of the fluid, if it is really black then maybe the seal in the master cylinder is on the way out.
