V6 Exhaust - re-routing through chassis?

I am looking at having a new exhaust system built and fitted (amongst other interesting things:D) and was wondering if anybody has considered / had done.....

1.. the length of the manifold pipes being increased, and made in such a way that they were the same length before they were merged into 1 down pipe either side

2.. the exhaust being routed through the chassis to avoid the inevitable damage to the down pipes

any views or thoughts would be welcomed as I am hoping to make the mods prior to S club heaven.:yes:...and I have someone who is itching to start manufacturing and modifying.

I considered something similar when I had mine built but decided there wouldn't be enough room to get around the chassis. Stainless tubes are also a bit difficult to bend, they tend to collapse and you need a special type of bender .....ooooer!

You can get the tubing mandrel bend, but it takes time and money. Most exhaust suppliers should be able to do it though.

I had this done on my M series TVR by Tony Law (Leeds) through Ric Wood. Basically each downpipe was a seperate tube, all tuned lengths, and they met in a collector 3 into 1 underneath.

Can't see why it couldn't be done on an S, as the cars are funamentally the same type of design. Liberated a load more power, as the engine could now get rid of the exhaust gasses better and hence breathe better.

Wasn't cheap though, entire system inc manifolds and exhaust system approx £1,000 about 8 years ago!!! (in mild steel!!!)

it is the fact that it liberated a lot more power that is the part that is of interest!!!

Ascar in Sheffield quoted me half a days labour + parts to eroute the pipes from to join at the front of the engine and pass between the engine and chassis on the right hand side of the engine, (looking forward). Suspect its a bit more of a complicated job than that though..

Will have a price in about 3 weeks when I get back from my hols.... as I have baffle(s) that have come loose it is now a neccessity to get it renewed and even if I don't get it rerouted I will be getting the manifolds lengthened and made all the same length..
