Steering rack to Engine Mounts!
Discussion
I've just removed the steering rack to investigate the N/S play found during the MOT, and it looks like the actual track rod ball joint is the cause, not sure of the refurb implications of this??... But also.. noticed that the sump is rubbing on the antiroll bar!! Looks like I will be busy changing engine mounts as wellas sorting out the rack. Has anyone done this whilst keeping the engine in car and got any helpful hints they can pass on??
TIA

Just done the engine mounts with engine in situ on the V8S but as you have an S3 probably not going to be much help. Obviously common points would be to support the chassis securely on axle stands and jack the engine up on a trolley jack. I used a large block of wood under the sump to spread the load. This enabled me to move the engine up and down slightly to remove the mounts more easily . . . was a b*stard of a job though as access isn't easy with the V8 even though I had the exhaust manifolds off. Good Luck.
