Any S's heading over, I went a couple of years ago and won the a day in the Tuscan racer.

Should be a good event, there a good bunch at Topcats.

I should be heading over there, an one else up for it ?

A very very large number, the engine is being rebuilt from the ground up.

Hopefully they are all still engine shaped bits though and not shrapnel(sp?) .

Yes, it was dismantled with spanners rather than the right foot! A couple of the bearings were in a bit of a bad way, but apart from that it seems to be generally in good shape. Which is a relief as it means I don't need to spend loadsa money on forged whatsits.

Surprised if the bottom end isn't too bad, mine was pretty good when stripped, tbh it would have been fine if left alone but you never know. Then again it had an easier life than yours .
When do you hope to have it up and running , I assume at which point you'll get Mark to sort it out, don't want to kill the rebuilt one with too much/little fuel. When you do let me know I'll pop up to have a look see when its put through its paces.

I suspect that most of the bottom end damage happened because the oil pickup was 90% clogged up with silicon, for some reason the last person to work on the engine decided it was a good idea to virtually fill the timing cover with the stuff. I'll be 'having words' next time I see them. But I can't really complain, it's in far better shape than I expected after 100k very hard miles followed by another few thousand miles of severe abuse. I'm particularly pleased to see that the pistons and little ends are all OK, that was the main concern.
