Took the S for a nice drive through the New Forest today, just about got home when my 'engine starts cutting out' problem reared its ugly head again. This happened about a month ago, again on a very hot day after a couple of hours of driving.
Anyway...had a poke around under the bonnet and found that the coil was very hot (burning my fingers hot!) Does anyone know how hot these usually get?
I left the bonnet open for about twenty minutes, much to the amusement/satisfaction of everyone walking past, which was enough to cool everything down sufficiently and let me continue on home.
The problem does seem to be related to the ambient temperature - I've done a couple of long-ish drives since it happened the first time and haven't had a problem, only seems to occur on the hottest days!

Gents, agree with Colin, they do get very hot under that g.r.p.
In fact, if you look in 'The Bible', shpub says that being able to start-up after a cool down is a classic indication of coil failure/degeneration. You could prove by substitution with a known good coil when it cuts out again.
Good luck. Nick
