replacement purge tank

The cat cars were fitted with a charcoal purge tank
as pics below..

These apparently should be changed regularly to avoid fuel fumes entering back into the system and causing the lambda sensors to think there is an over rich mixture (bible page 63)and any probes in the exhaust thinking the same...

sensors up my exhaust showed my mixture starts at 11:1 then increases to 9:1 so my car is running rich according to the sensors......... but maybe it is the purge cannister.

Can't see any record of it being changed:yikes: so I am thinking about its regular 14 year change!!

Does anyone know where I can get one and is it likely to be expensive.....

yellow computer type writing printed on it shows..

E6AE - 9D653 - AA 910129

the last bit could possibly be the production date ie Jan 1991.... the car is sept 91 car so seems possible..

Never heard of them needing to be changed and no idea where you'd get a replacement. It should only be purged at part throttle. If in doubt just block off the pipe to the inlet manifold and see if it makes any difference.

says to change it regularly on page 67 of the bible...

any ideas how I can tell which one to block off to test it??

Nope. But if you follow the hoses up you should find one goes to fresh air and the other splits to the tank and off to the engine bay. It's the one to the engine bay you want to block, and probably the easiest way to do it is to squash it where it goes into the plenum, if you can recognise it.

BTW not in any way questioning the bible but I'm pretty sure mine is original, and it's been serviced regularly by specialists.

spoke to David Gerald and they said that it wasn't part of a service schedule so just leave it alone......
