When out in the s at the weekend I found that when she gets hot and I go to accelerate when coming out of a bend, nothing happens, it splutters a little and then takes off!
some one has told me that this is a problem that injection cars suffer from in hot weather, I personally don`t think this as the case, any ideas ??
Tickover is fine, it always starts, it just seems like your trying to give it to much fuel and it briefly clogs up.
could it be a dodgy coil, having just read jons post.

Is it any different if you do the same thing in a straight line?

Just a plain old flat spot then? Mine does that when the throttle pot is disconnected. Depending which flavour of injection system you have, yours might be similar.

why only when the throttle pot is disconnected?
is this a problem related to it?

Disconnecting the throttle pot prevents the ECU from giving transient enrichment as the throttle is opened, and without the enrichment the engine leans out as you open the throttle.

so is this just a normal flatspot, something common to the s? I just felt rather worried that it may be the start of something more serious, don`t know what , but thought it would pick up straight away when accelerating after decelerating, I have noticed that if I try to drive a bit smoother and gradually accelerate there is no problem at all, is it that the ECU does not respond quick enough, say on decelerating it wants no fuel at all, but when asked to accelerate qiuckly, if you put the pedal to the floor you are trying to give it to much to soon?

or am I barking up the wrong tree alltogether!

It isn't right, it shouldn't do that. The symptoms are consistent with lack of transient enrichment, which is something that depends on the throttle pot. I suspect you may have a fault in the throttle pot or wiring to it.

Clive if IIRC you are running the Cerbie TP....... .... if so that could be cause of the problem, when I tested the cerbie one I was not happy with the performance of the car overall

so looking at previous posts, the cerb one is sometimes used because its much cheaper than the ford part, so hopefully a ford one will do the trick, I`ll find the part no, and order one up.

thanks guys.

Get a price from a couple of different Ford shops. My local main dealer, CG Ford wanted £76. A smaller Ford dealer charged £45. The manager couldn't believe the difference in price.

Sounds like my problem last night. Fitted a £15 coil today and now it goes like a dream !

You need a knew connector if your original is not the gold coloured one to match the knew TP. Then as stated on previous posts, the two outside wires of the three need swapped around. Some say it workes fine without doing this but mine wouldn't even start if wired "correctly"

Why change wiring loom unless TP connections changed... can't see it if changing like for like.

Adrian you have orig TP.... it's as good as gold... and be tempted down any other route

Let us know the result Clive out of interest.
I don't think you will need to change the wiring loom to fit the Ford TP ... but the car will let you know if I am wrong!

TP saga just runs n' runs.
Praps we should have a 'TP'forum?

I may be wrong but I understood the the revised pot with gold connections DID need the wiring kit.
Mind you I've now run two S3's and neither has had TP problems.
I'm going for a drive now before it goes.

The gold connector wiring assembly has two of the wires transposed, so it's not a straight swop.

You're not doing it right!
