possible major breakthrough in the hunt for BHP

With my ongoing quest to get the car doing itself justice I have been reading and reading and posting silly questions but I may have finally had the breakthrough I need....

I know that the car has been running rich ie 11:1 dropping to 9:1 at full throttle (should be about 14:1 at start) and I have slowly been fixing things ie new exhaust, map sensor etc.. well

I have just disconnected both Lambda sensors which means the ECU is getting no feedback about O2 levels in the system.. the theory being that if they had beeen working before, once I disconnect them and start the car the idle should be horrid and trying to rev the car not good at all.


Result....... turn the key..... engine fires starts does everything it always does settles down at 1000rpm..

rev the engine.... does what it normally does...

Conclusion 2 knackered Lambda sensors. I wouldn't normally be happy about spending the money but this time I am...

The engine could well be running in safe mode.... it has definately not got a clue about the air / fuel mixture..

Just need to source new ones... hence the thread I started this morning
