Starter Motor - Step 2

Thanks to everyone who helped with my novice questions on sockets and torque wrenches etc ...

I managed to get the two bolts loose with some new sockets and a longer bar. Rizzult.

However, according to the bible - I should now be able to withdraw the starter motor from the bell housing.

Er ... no. The bolts are out - but it seems just as securely welded to the housing as ever. I guess it's glued on by an old gasket or some such.

Anyone come across this problem before ?

if all the bolts are out give it a good tap with a piece of wood to break the seal...... I have had cars when I was younger where the starter motor wouldn't engage and a sharp smack with a peice of wood sorted it and didn't harm anything.

Okey dokes. The sharp blow to the piece of wood it is ... wish me luck ! Oh but the gasket based fables I shall be able to tell the grand children. Sadly it's past the "good tap will fix it" routine - did work for a while - but I think one of the armatures in well and truely knackered now. Am just hoping I won't have to move the exhaust to get it out - the bible reckons this can sometimes be necessary.

Of course, the missus reckons I should take it to the nice man with the overalls - but I shall not be thwarted - oh no ...
