Got my Cossie engine, just have to decide whether to change the heads or the whole thing.

Yes but I might just put the 24v heads on and see how that goes, 220bhp is possible I'm told and that is V8S type power.
Once I have tested this on my car I may be offering this upgrade to others in conjuction with Thames Valley Racing.
Any takers

So you can just change the heads then......

What else is envolved with just a head swap then??

I did think about a complete cossie swap but was put off by all the other crap that needed doing (and expense to go with it!) But if a head swap is easier

Yes this was my fear but Steve is of the opinion that a head change is enough power for the S3 chassis and I tend to vear to this for cost reasons.

The engine is as cheap as chips, its all the other work that would put me off the full changover

£250 for the whole thing, I didn't ask about the gearbox yet because I probably won't go the whole hog.
Give Steve a ring if you want to discuss more.

Maybe I am wrong but I am not convinced sticking the 24v heads on is a simple as it sounds and it would certainly seem to depend on the engine code of the donor 24v engine. I had a look at this route myself. I am by no means an authority on the engine but some of the things I read here:
www.fordscorpio.co.uk/24valve.htm
put me off the idea of a head swap and led me to believe it may be all or nothing i.e. engine swap (with the associated expense) or leave it alone.

I will sit here now and hopefully be corrected
Carl.

I thought the cossie had an auto box - so you had to do something trick with the ECU to fool it into thinking it had a 'park' sensor otherwise it won't start when mated to a manual box.

Some (granted very few) cossie grandads did have a manual box but as you correctly state Woody most were auto's. Maybe Derek got lucky and found a manual donor... Well Derek, did ya???????

Er, I thought that you couldn't swap the heads - all the oilways, water paths etc are completely on the 12v and 24v blocks...

I think a quick look at the timing gear may be worth your while, it just may put you off.

Cheers guys, you have all depressed me big time.

Seriously, I have no idea what Steve has in mind but if you look at the things he does to the cars on TG and 5th gear, he does know what he is doing.

However I will voice your concerns and see exactly what he proposes.

You will have to ghange your timing gear, page 22 of the bible shows the 2.9 as a gear on the camshaft and a gear on the crankshaft. On the cossie there is a set of two chains, plus the tensioners are hydraulic. I believe the cossie heads are shorter and the sump was modified as well, so lots of work there. Maybe a straight engine swap would be a more viable proposition.
