air-flow meters?
Discussion
Just passed MOT (hurray) but struggled with the CO on the emissions (boo)! Garage reckons might be air-flow meter fault so looking to renew both of them (if they fail the tests in the Bible, when I get a mo' to test them!). Any good sources for (preferably) new or unused ones? Keeping an eye on e-bay (which has a nice 2.9 modded engine on it...hmmm)!
Could also possibly be TP at fault as this works along side AFM's to control mixture. I got one recently from here:-
www.tuneparts.co.uk/tpot.htm
Telephoned order at lunchtime and it arrived in the post next morning. Very good service and only £37.60 including vat and postage.
Cant comment on how long it will last as only just fitted but there were no problems fitting and it works fine. Part number is WTP020.
Hope thats of some help,
Carl.

The Engine Coolant Sensor (for the ECU, not the gauge) might also be worth checking - if this was playing up the mixture could be enriched.
AFAIK, its only the signal from the top AFM that the ECU uses. Have you tried removing the air filter, pushing the butterfly flap back and making sure that the heated wire within the top AFM is not covered with sh1te ?
May be worth investigating before committing to new AFMs.

hmm - went for TP option first (mine still had original Ford one on I think). Fitted and took for a blast (early morning, warmed her up gently) - felt much better - all round drivability improvement, no erratic idling, smoother response etc. Parked up for a few hours - went for another drive (warm day, warmed car up gently) - back to original 'lumpy' performance and erratic idle!!! I noticed that if i unplugged the top AFM plug while engine running, idle drops from about 1000rpm to just below (800/900?). Think I'll be popping the AFM out for a look this evening.
nah - used one from the supplier in the other thread (Tune Parts) - had silver connectors and worked fine for a while anyway! Just stripped out AFMs and cleaned the sensing wires - bottom one was well gungy. According to the bibles wiring diag, both AFMs supply info to ECU so hope that has cured it! Will find out tomorrow...
The on my first MOT on the S2, the emissions were a bit rich at tickover, but the nice MOT man revved it up and measured it at revs - no problem.
During the year, I had tick over problems, so I removed and cleaned both airflow meters, idle valve, and the throttles, and this year the emissions were very low !
It may be worth a clean up with carb cleaner and careful use of a cottom bud on the airflow meter wires before slashing out on new parts.

Just fitted s/hand top AFM to see if that improves things.
Seems to have steadied out the idle speed so good start. Need to get it back to MOT station for CO idle setting adjustment - anyone got a rough guide on the depth of the allen adjuster bolt for initial set-up?
The new one is from a sierra 2.9 and the adjuster is nearly at the bottom of it's travel whereas the old AFM on mine had the adjuster near the top. If I can get an average from a few PHers, I'll use that to get to the tester! I'm measuring from the top of the adjuster housing to the bottom of the recess for the allen key.
