First time for everything...

I actually thought about selling the S today :eek:

Over the next few months I need to fund:
* Outrigger repair
* MOT
* Insurance (annual payment)
* TAX
* Service

There comes a time when I will simply run out of funds :(

I can delay the service as I got a full one in March, but everything else cannot wait.

I make that around £1300-£1400 (and that's if nothing needs doing to pass the MOT) :weeping: I know, I know, any car would need most of that lot.

Not felt so depressed with S ownership ever...

I was there 5 weeks ago after I spudded the front of mine and got the repair estimate.

The question is, (sod the market value) how much is it worth to you? Once you've spent that money, will you return to the same smiles per mile ratio as before?

In fairness you'd have to spend most of that on a normal car. The only exception is the outrigger. And if that's failing at the front corner it can be cut out and replaced without a body off. Austec did mine for a song.

Thanks guys for the support and suggestions. Made me feel a lot better

It looks like there is a place that could do the outrigger (I am told it is a small hole offside) for a lot cheaper than I have been quoted so I will contact them tomorrow. Booked in at the other place so they won't be happy but money is money (very profound that).

Pies, the rest of your costings are close to what I calculate (minus the service which I hadn't included).

I wouldn't sell the S for another car. I'd only sell it for no car at all! I just don't want anything else. Right, its sunny. Off for a drive.

There is one other way of spreading the load if you are struggling and that's to find the best deal for standng order payments on the insurance.

1). Outrigger repair. Takes a while, to lower cost you can do it yourself. Take the car off the road while it's being done.

2). MOT cannot be done until no 1 is completer. Everything else on MOT check is pretty simple to fix, unless it is more structral.

3). Insurance, whilst the Outrigger is being done, the car will be off the road.

4). Tax, SORN whist prepping for repairs and MOT

5). Service. Do it yourself. If you don't know how, now is a good time to learn.

I have hit the same with the Griff. It needs some TLC, bit of body work, electrics fixing, manifold gasket replacing, the insurance is crippling especially as my job security is in question, so it will go off the road unitl it is fixed and the weather is fairer. Also by that time I will be 25 and less suceptible to the evil insurance.

Chin up man and let's here none of this talk of selling. There is always a way out. If you need help with mechanics I am always happy to lend a hand.

All booked in for a reasonable price. Being my only driver it cannot be taken out of service for any period of time. I've hired a garage from a friend though so the car can be pampered a little more over the winter

Picking up the car tomorrow - all work done.

New outrigger (they have the old to show me 'cause it was apparently rather bad), MOT (passed without issue), discs and pads were in a fairly poor state though - an MOT pass (just) but I got them done anyway. I don't believe in economising on brakes

Re veneer of dash panels
Fit 16" Estorils all round (will keep originals when selling time comes)
Possible brake upgrade to griff 500

Still pretty standard

And the engine is to remain standard
