Reverse, who needs it?

Having trouble with forward gears now as well,

Check for fluid in the reservoir - Yeah, I know its obvious but at least you can see if you've got a leak. Top it up if needed and give it a bleed.

If that fails, you might have a weeping slave cylinder. I refurbed mine as a bodge job about a year ago (fine wet & dry on the cylinder bore and proper grease) - its still A1...

Can't get any gears unless I virtually stand on the gearlever now...

Me and it are going to have a break from each other before I put a sledgehammer through the windscreen.

Try pumping the pedal and see if that improves matters. If it works then the seals may have gone.
If no different then ............clutch out .

Have a look at your master cylinder, see if that is leaking, a good indication of leakage is fluid on the clutch pedal, if all else fails, maybe a new clutch.

I think it is the clutch. I have had a look at the master which seems fine. No drop in fluid.

Haven't had a look at the slave yet, but my spidey sense tells me the clutch is kaputt.

What next....

It's *probably* only the clutch hydraulics then. If you're really really lucky, bleeding the clutch will fix it.

Otherwise, you're looking at a fault in the master or slave cylinders. If the slave has failed you'll have a fluid leak there. If it's the master you may have a fluid leak or you may not, depending which seal has gone.

Mike, left the office in sheffield (for Leicester) had probs getting reverse. 5 miles later couldn't get 1st. By Loughborough, only had 3rd. This was due to the master cylinder leaking a lot (check driver's side carpets for fluid?). replaced master and slave cylinders, contact me if you want to know more - good luck mate!

Mike - did my slave cylinder 2 months ago - also £70 and a few quid for the swearbox fitting it! Made a big difference to clutch action.

Cheers folks, I will replace both. This must be the problem as the clutch itself seems fine.

I must be having a run on clutch master and slaves, that was the last job I had to do in the porker prior to selling it.

I just brought a clutch slave cylinder from local factors yesterday for 30+vat.

It was off a Rover SD1 part no. Lockheed LL37528

Haven't fitted it yet but it looks identical.

Mike, what colour is your clutch fluid, if it is really black, that is a good indication that some seals are worn.
