I followed what I thought was a V8S the other day, but when I saw the front of it it had a vent not a bulge...
I was trying to get a listen at the engine noise but traffic hindered my attempts..(me leaning out of the window, ears cupped - 50 commuters going mental behind me)
What does a V6 sound like in comparison to a V8 ?
...and what kind of performance difference is there between them ?
I must say I do like the little vent...

Mine has a vent, and is an S3C.
The V8S is a lot quicker than a standard S3C.
0 TO 60 5 Secs, and romps onto 150mph.
The v6 is just under 7 seconds to 60 and tops at about 140mph I think.
Depends on exhaust / intake noise really, mine is always being mistaken for a V8 (Psychobert will verify this) but mine has an ear splitting lack of exhaust silencing on it.
I love the S3, but would like a V8S even more.

Having owned both the V6 and V8 they sound different and one cannot be said to be 'better' than the other in all cases. The V6 has a unique sound, more high pitched, and does tend to be a little louder in most cases. The V8 has that deeper burble that the V6 is 'trying' to reproduce. When I owned a V6 and heard MrSheens V8, that was it, I wanted one so bought one at the earliest opportunity and so glad I did. Saying that with a few mods and the right exhaust the V6 can sound great Doddze, Mycroft, Bridgedav, Clivef to name a few all have great sounding cars, among the best sounding 'S' V6 cars I have heard anyway!
Have a listen to my audio that will be posted tomorrow after my 'Cherry bomb' conversion to my JP sports exhaust and see what you think, the sound is awesome. I havent stopped smiling all day....and I havent even been out in it, I am just thinking about my drive tomorrow, cant wait, hope I have enough time in between to post the audio??
As for performance the V8S is in a different league if you look at the figures but I must say the V6 felt plenty enough when I had it. The V6 certainly wont disapoint and again with an engine remap and a few tweaks the power figures that have been achieved are enough to keep all but the power crazy happy...?

it will be wicked, I want my S2 doing.I had a new stainless "straight through" system built for mine and it did sound fantastic. As Mike says though the V6 has a roarty sound rather than a burble, especially at idle.
Mine sounded best once I had taken it to 1800 rpm and above.
If you talk to Plug, F908TIM, Wildfire, UKBob and markibears they'll tell you how loud my car was when we all went out for a hoon.
Basically, it was a copy of the standard exhaust but without using any silencing in what used to be the ovalled front section (this was replaced by straight pipes) and the main centre box had perforated pipes straight through it with a small amount of wadding around them. No baffles at all.
Cost was .....peanuts for a stainless steel mirror finish custom exhaust, just £120!
