Chaps - just realised that I've been running the car on Optimax, and that's probably unnecessary. Bog standar, untuned engine. Surely 95 RON is all it needs?

My S3C (Minus the C) runs perfectly well on normal 95ron unleaded.
I haven't tried optimax but would presume there isn't a great deal of difference with it.

Yep, the engine's a Granada engine, so can't imagine why it would need a higher octane. Unless you want the cleaning power of Optimax. Personally I prefer just to chuck a bottle of cleaner every once in a while.

found mine runs better on optimax ,it sounded like a bag of nails on 95

Tell you what, mine is parched at the moment, I have always intended giving it a dose of optimax so will do so tomorrow and compare.

I need to empty a can of carb cleaner down it's throat as well so hopefully you never know, between the two it may run sweeter than ever.

my v8 pinks a bit on 95 if you give it fullbore below 2500
optimax solves the problem and is better than messing around with proboost etc
haven't had it on rollers yet to look at the timing or fueling as it seems to run just fine

Ah but the V8 isn't from a Granada now is it? . If you check the serial number on the ECU and refer to the bible you can find out if you can run on 95.

The bible also says that if it is fitted with a cat it should be run on superunleaded but the 2.9 v6 s series can be run on premium unleaded with a small power loss... providing ecu is of the later type.

So if you have de catted where does it leave you... Mime wasn't good the one time I tried it tesco unleaded... difficult when the engine was cold... could have been an iffy tank full I suppose

Having said that I always ran on Optimax, but with prices being so high now it makes more of a difference. I run the Griff on 95, but then it has been set up to do so, what with lowering the Compression Ratio. Although I do stick Optimax in once in a while.

I use nothing but optimax, engines runs far sweeter than with 95 ron.
