battery straps

I recall my old S had a battery strap (or possibly 2) to keep it in place. Claire's doesnt have anything and whilst its unlikely the car will be subject to enough G force to move the battery from the tray I want to make sure its secure, not least in the event of any unfortunate incidents.

How are the majority held down? Straps? I am toying with the idea of bolting a metal strap around it...

mines held in by a single clamp held by 2 bolts.

I use 1" nylon webbing ratchet straps ("Eliza Tinsley" - brand) from DIY stores. The ratchet keeps the strap very tight, but can quickly be released.

Another vote for webbing ratchet straps here. Much easier than footering with bolts and brackets...

I went for 2 heavy Duty Zip Ties connected together to for a big one. 2 of these was fine for 2 years on mine. I jjust carried a few spare in the boot.

cheers guys, strap route it is. I looked at some metal battery clamps yesterday and it just isnt worth the fuss.

Need to get some myself, johnmac pointed out that the battery was sat in the base, not being held in.

I'm with Wildfire on this one. 2 heavy duty zip ties tied together x2 never moved a dot.

somehow I doubt that the S will get around the twisties at quite the same rate of knots though, or stop as quickly for that matter If I can bag a second set of wheels for trackdays it'll mean Yokohama A038s as well. Now that will be silly

The Liz is more focussed track day toy. The S is just silly

I had a play about with this when I had my S......

My battery was held in place by some angle fillet bolted on clamping the the battery lip on the base down...

Replaced the battery which did not have a lip... tried many things which did not work... reversed the angle fillet so it worked by wedging the battery in place...

Tried one of the old fashioned metal clamps over/under the battery with wirly bolts.... no good as they bolts protrude up to far thus would cause damage to the bonnet.....

A strap is as good as anything.
