TVR S SCH 2027?
The annual TVR S gatherings started in 2002 and took place every year except for 2020 (Covid) and 2026 (nobody picked up the batten to coordinate it!).

So, time to think again…
1: Do you want this event to continue and
2: Can we find someone with the initiative to coordinate the event for 2027?

Do we have a volunteer or volunteers?

When you are thinking about it, the following notes from past experience may help.

1. NAME; called “S Club Heaven” in reference to a pop group long since gone. Decision taken a few years ago to stick with that.
2. MEMBERSHIP; it has become adopted and supported as an official TVRCC national event. However it is also entirely open to ALL S owners and enthusiasts.
3. FACEBOOK PAGE; best to keep information and updates on this FB page. Using the ‘Events tab’ and a separate FB page were tried but did NOT work well. WE also need to ensure information is copied onto Pistonheads website (there are still a few S owners on there only) and it does get coverage in SPRINT including in the annual events listings.
4. DATES; a summer weekend, but probably best to avoid Bank Holidays which tend to be ‘family’ weekends.
5. TYPE OF LOCATION; the location chosen needs to link into some other public event in order to create enough interest for a weekend. That need not necessarily be solely a car event (air show, steam gathering etc might also work?). The main date (Sat or Sun) for that event could influence planning. Important to consider if the event would appeal to partners, many S owners now like to bring them as well.
6. ACCOMMODATION/FACILITIES; many people camp but increasingly S owners prefer hotels. The location must have access to decent camping opportunities on the Friday and Saturday night. It is important to research local budget hotel provision and provide that information. If there is an evident opportunity for S owners to get together for a meal that would be a bonus. A moderate drive out to a meal can be popular. It has become pretty well essential to have a suitable gazebo as a focal point on site. The TVRCC have a couple available and will be happy to loan thrm if booked in time. The TVRCC will also provide publicity material including banners and childrens` packs.
7. GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION; we have tended to move locations around, often because a ‘lead’ member has taken the initiative in their area. However, records suggest that a reasonably central location draws the most members (two big meets were at Newark and Sywell). Obviously easy motorway access helps those people coming some distance.
8. COST; there are small costs involved for the organiser (trophies, momentos, admin) and there should be a small initial fee payable to the organiser. There may also be a fee for the event. At two events at least it proved far easier for the organiser to manage numbers and identities if they get the money in from the S owner and then pay the fee. The TVRCC have been willing to provide some financial support and they would need to be approached for a budget first. They may also be prepared to act as ‘insurance’ should there be a small loss on the event.
9. DRIVE OUT; I think a lot depends on the location and the event we are linked to. Big events create logistical difficulties, while some locations have good driving road opportunities that are not to be missed! Owners who have driven a long way are not keen on a long drive out. If there is attractive driving locally however it is a shame to miss it. Suggest a maximum 1 hour trip and if this can be associated with a social meal opportunity at a café etc, so much the better.
10. JUDGING; this is NOT a concours event and complicated judging in various classes is NOT recommended. Over recent years we have provide the opportunity for each participant to list their three favourite cars using their own criteria. So each owner becomes a judge, and three prizes are given with trophies. A bit of fun but well received.
We also have the Ken Appleton trophy, awarded to the favourite ‘Go car not Show car’. There is also a Memorial Trophy (in memory of several past members) which is awarded to a person who is considered to have contributed to the S marque (this has been awarded so far at the discretion of the moderators on this site).
Certificates can be provided by the club, or the coordinator is that is convenient for them.
11. TROPHIES & SOUVENIRS; assuming note 10 above remains adopted, that means three graded trophies. Plus getting the Ken Appleton and Memorial trophies returmed to award again!! Souvenirs have proved popular in the past in the form of event specific T shirts or mugs/glasses etc. The event fee should include the expense of this. It needn’t be the coordinator who arranges this. Making it optional is a pain for the person responsible!
12. RAFFLE; we have often held a raffle at the event. Don’t leave this to the coordinator, they have enough to do. But if another participant wants to run a raffle, for an agreed charity, then why not?
13. WHATSAPP GROUP; this is popular successful both for the event and establishing longer term contacts.
