looking to buy!!!
38 years old and finaly pursuaded the wife that the garage can fit an 'old' car in; many years ago i had a spitfire and then an mg. to be honest that is what i was going to go for this time around...
but a friend of a friend (who lives on the other side of the country) is apparently selling a TVR s2
it is described as follows
"Unfortunately we do not have any pictures but it is in very good condition and he has spent a lot of money on it over the yesrs. It is no longer taxed for road use and is not insured:----
TVR-S,sports model,(convertible) 2792cc. petrol V6 engine. Colour gold. MOT cert.expires 22nd July 2006. recorded milage 72838..Date of manuf. 15 04 1988. Price indication £3000.
It can be seen at any mutually convenient time. Very throaty exhaust!!"
what should i look for? i have searched the piston heads classifieds and this price seems ok... but not if it needs loads doing
what about servicing; i have a friend with a small garage who services my V70. i guess he will be fine on the ford engine but are the other parts as servicable to a non specialist??
i look forward to any help you can give

Put it this way - if the chasis is not rotten and your not buying it - I will.
Seriously though - the only thing to check is the chasis as everything else is fairly standard stuff, any decent mechanic will be ok with servicing / repairs etc and parts are easy to come across whether ford or TVR specific.
Check out the buyers guide on the this web site.

S2 supposed to have later 2.9L engine, but if you've read up on TVRs, the earlier engine will not come as a shock!
Remember this is not the only TVR, and this time of year there will be other bargains. As said by Steve on the general forum, the sound will draw out your wallet. Try to see 3 or 4 if you can as they do vary alot.
Engines bombproof (think 2.8 needs LRP, but could be wrong/may have been adjusted).
Some body crazing to be expected, but there are plenty without. Chassis is the big area to check. Outriggers, particularly just behind front wheels (triangular reinforcement plate holds all the cr@p) and on earlier models, the rear trailing arms can be well corroded. Chassis should be waxoyled every year as epoxy coating wasn't good new let alone now. Some switchgear may be iffy, and some of the smaller dials often mist up - my old S3 did, as did every other one I saw. If you're tall, S3 has bigger doors and different cabin.
I loved my S3, and still miss it, but the V8 and Chimaera shape eventually got to me - the S will always hold good memories - much cheaper on the wallet too!
Enough from me - sure many others will follow - this is an excellent forum. Don't forget to get a copy of Steve Heath's "bible" - invaluable!

Chasis, Chasis, Chasis. Then as far as servicing and repairs are concerned you can do it yourself ( believe me, if I can do it anyone can) or a decent mechanic should be able to maintain it. Oh, and keep visiting this site as there are some very knowledgable people on here to point you in the right direction if you have a queery. And buy a copy of the bible. I thinks that's about it.
Just buy one, you won't regret it!!!
