My s has just developed a most perculiar tick-over.
It started by deciding to ticv-over at 1500rpm rather than the usual 850.
Then....
two seconds at 1100, two seconds at 1500, two seconds at 1000, two seconds at 1500, etc etc etc.
Discuss!
T.P
Possibly throttle pot, yes, but not necessarily. Could be idle speed valve, air flow meters (unless it an S3C) Lambda sensor (if it is an S3C!) wiring or connector fault, inlet manifold or throttle butterfly leak, etc etc.
You're probably right, though...

I was told to disconnect the TP to see if that improved things, if so replace.
disconnect the TP at the connector block just below it. Make sure wires are out of the way. If car runs smooth highly likely to be the TP.... it is basically bypassing the TP and putting the car into a safe mode. If the bad running is still there then it is likely to be something else..
I had the same problem as Johns3. Fault went away when TP was disconnected but after replacing pot with new the fault immediately re-appeared! Traced it to the multi-plug situated under the ignition coil and just above cylinder 2 (the TP wiring goes through this connector), it wasnt made properly, quick squirt with the WD40 and plug back together and fault was gone
. Maybe worth checking if disconnecting pot gets rid of problem.
Carl.
