Tachometer drive voltage

I have just fitted a Cosworth V6 to my S1. All is well, but my tachometer does not work. Does anybody know what signal voltage these work at. The car was originally fitted with a 2.8i V6, which had electronic ignition, as opposed to an ECU. The tachometer was driven from the ignition module?
Needless to say, the car is now lightyears better with this engine. Not only is it substantially quicker, although that did not take a lot of doing, but the whole thing is so much more refined and turbine like. Perfect for enthusiastic driving and track days.
I do not know about anybody elses car, but the only criticism I have left is the steering feels quite wooly straight ahead. I never used to notice it, but now I hav`nt driven the car for some time, its noticable. The bushes and linkage are all fine. There does not appear to be any play in the rack, because if you twitch the road wheel, there does not seem to be any discernable delay before the steering wheel reacts. Any ideas?
