Chassis Number

Hello all.
A friend of mine is after an S, and has asked me to have a look at one with him. I was wondering where the Chassis number is stamped? On my Chim it is on the chassis cross member just behind the rad. Any help appreciated. Ads

Thanks lads. Went to have a look at a S2 at the weekend with my friend. seemed in good condition. What do you think though, its got 112k miles, had new outriggers 2/3 years ago by top cats.

The only problems I could find was a ticking noise from the rear when cornering, and a water leak from the expansion tank overflow.

Any ideas what could be causing the ticking noise?
Could the water leak from the overflow be due to the expansion tank being over full?

Could not find the chassis number though, which is a little worrying.

Ticking at the rear in corners is usualy a sign of worn cv's.
Never done them but heard they arent too difficult.
Shouldnt be too much cause for concern and at least he can have a good look eveywhere
else when his changing them.

So was mine but it was in permanent marker, its now under a layer of paint .

So does it matter if it doesn`t have a chassis number then?

I have always thought to steer clear of anything without a chassis number.

try and find the chassis number, but I would have a very good look elsewhere, there are some nice examples for sale out there, and 112k is one hell of a lot of miles, so hopefully that is reflected in the asking price, high milage should n`t put you off IF, it has service history.

Has lots of history in a folder, old MOT's all bills etc. in need of a service now though. Its up for 4k, do you think this is too much then? it has had new suspension all round in the last few months.

if its up for 4 youve got to start at 3500, a really good un ought to fetch 6k with low milage!go for it.

Well my friend bought a white S2 today, and I looked all around it, seemed in good condition. I saw that familiar grin on his face when we arrived home, much the same as I had when I bought my Chim.
No doubt he will be joining pistonheads, i`ll get him to introduce himself.
