Oil Breather Hose ?

Can anyone help with a small enquiry. I have a hose coming off of the oil filler cap. It is currently left loose and pushed in between the chassis to keep it out of the way. There is a jubilee clip on the end so it obviously has been attached to something at some point. I have looked at the bible and can see the filler cap end, but not the other end. The only possibility i can think of is there appears to be a small nipple on the side of the air filter which it would make sense for it to fit onto. I don't want to fit it to this unless i definately know it should go there. It must have been like this since i purchased the car, and there don't appear to have been any problems in 6 months. Any help gratefully received.

Yes it fits onto the back of the air filter, so that crankcase fumes are drawn back into the engine and burnt.

You can take the tube off and fit a small conical filter on the breather instead. If you do this. seal the hose in the back of the filter.

It does fit onto the air filter. Shouldn't make the car any better or worse. You have 2 choices in what to do, fit it back on or take the pipe off the filler cap and fit a small breather filter on instead. Or in your case a third option is to leave it dangling and polute our lovely atmosphere with more horrible gasses
