S3 Dash Removal.....
Discussion
The nuts are located on the dash as follows:
* 2 on the far left-hand side above the glove box, one nut above the other - the easiest to remove
* 1 to the left of the heater control, just to the right of the glove box (this is a bit tricky, I used a small open spanner but be careful as it's easy to drop it and lose it forever!)
* 1 to the right of the heater control, accessed by dropping the steering column
* 2 on the far right-hand side of the dash, to the right of the rev counter, one above the other
The easiest way of removing the three nuts on the right-hand side is with the roof off and with your head in the foot well. I found a small socket set (with a universal joint and small extension bar) the easiest way to get the necessary access. Lowering the steering column gives greater access and is achieved by removing the coweling around the instrument stalks to allow access to the 2 bolts that hold the steering column in place.
It's worth disconnecting the battery to make sure you don't short any bare wires with the tools. Also, be a bit careful not to dislodge any wires when you're poking around - I managed to disconnect my boot switch and only found out when it started to rain and I wanted to put the roof back on - fortunately I spotted the wire I'd inadvertently disconnected!
Once these nuts are off you should be able to pull the dash towards you a bit. It fits pretty closely to the leatherette, so you may need to push and pull it a bit. Pull it forwards enough to gain access to the heater control, and remove the 2 nuts attaching this. Next, undo the nuts that hold the instrument plate to the dash and hey presto, you have removed the dash!
Someone posted a picture of an S3 dash removed showing the studs if I recall - if you do a search of this forum you should be able to find it (search not working for me for some reason).
Good luck!

Silverback's dash covering is lifting so we are going to whip the dashboard out to recover it properly.....
After some hints on where the various bolts may be before we get our gaenacologists hands on it.![]()
Helpful hints gratefully received.
I did exactly the same thing on my S3 but the instructions seem to be for removing the veneered centre panel, whereas I wanted to remove the whole thing.
I found a bracket each side of the footwell which I unbolted and then gave it a tug and it came forward 3 inches, which was enough to then disconnect the heater controlls etc, there were a couple or three captive bolts holding the dash to the bulkhead which nobody mentioned but they seemed to pull out very easily and I am going to replace them afterwards.
Thanks chaps.
Guess what....when it was re-covered last year, the screen happened to be out, so instead of bolting it in from the inside, up. They appear to have riveted it down (outside to inside) whilst the screen was out, so the only way to get it out is by removing the screen.
That's happening tomorrow.
Joy.

I need to remove my speedo on my V8s, having read this and other threads I am not clear on the following:
1) Do I need to remove just the veneer and then release the speedo whilst the dash is in situ?
2) Do the 5 bolts shown in the picture, release the whole dash or just the veneer?
3) Where can I hire a small pair of hands, as despite a couple of attempts I have not manged to get my hands in far enough to find all the nuts!!!!
Guidance or suggestions would be appreciated
