On lowering the trim to reveal the ECU it kind of fell out. There is a small bracket with two holes on the ECU but I cannot see where it would fix. There is a bracket holding some relays which has two holes with bolts not attached to anything but the hole spacing is bigger than that on the ECU bracket. Any help appreciated on how the ECU should be fixed and as to what the two bolts on the relay bracket are for.

I got so fed up of having to deal with all the wires every time i wanted the ECU out that I self-tappered mine to the transmission tunnel

I thought it was, along with the wiring loom, balanced ontop of the carpet flap , mine has that + ignition ECU, not a lot of room left and held up by a cable tie

This used to drive me nuts on my old V8S. In fact someone had tried to tie it all together with an old shoe lace, but it still all fell into the footwell when you removed the carpet piece.

Trouble is, it never all seemed to fit back in there once it had fallen out!

On mine there is a vertical plate rubber-mounted to the top of the skuttle, which looks as if the ECU was originally screwed to it. The screws are completely inaccessible though. I use a couple of cable ties to strap the ECU to it, and then shove the rest of the ECU loom into the gap at the top/front of the skuttle. This leavs more space for the rest of the fuse box and relay panel, which is just as well because I've replaced them and the new ones are quite a bit larger than the originals. This also leaves a bit of space for the water injection controller, lambda sensor controller, data logger etc.

The best mod I did for this was to put a couple of bolts down through the bottom of the dash so the carpet is just pushed over the end of the thread and then secured with a couple of wingnuts. This means the carpet can be refitted very easily instead of fighting to hold the carpet in position against the weight of all the wiring and stuff, while trying to do screws up with your third hand ...

You can flip it upside down and put one of the fuse panel bolts through the ECU plate, this keeps is in place and prevents the ruptured intestine effect when you go over a large bump.

BTW you will spend a while on your back cursing.

On mine the entire harness and ECU fell down with the carpet every time I went over a bump. Tried tying it up to the dashboard with no improvement.
Eventually I found the steel plate mentioned in an earlier post. Velcro on the plate and the ECU. Never had an issue with the carpet falling down again.

I fixed an eyelet tied to some string lace to a bolt at the rear of the footwell and then attached another eyelet at the other end. Push the ECU up behind the fuse box, pull tight and hook over reversed bolt at fuse box.

Then fitted a plasterboard crimp fixing so I can screw the cover panel on easily.
