Emergency Nipples

In the late 70s /Early 80s I had motorcycles and most of the bike shops sold "emergency nipples" these were in effect a small brass barrel with a hole drilled through the side for a cable to pass through. one end of the barrel was drilled and tapped and had a small slot head machine screw in it which when tightened clamped the cable and "got you home".Anyone know where I could get some of these as if throttle cables are that hard to get hold of ,I'll buy some cable and make up a few spare inners.
Another handy thing I used to use on motorcycle clutch cables was a cable oiler,why does this model snap throttle cables (only going off what I am reading on this forum) it sounds like bad routing or no lubrication???? at the end of the day there is relatively little load on that throttle cable albeit pretty constant.

There are several faults that can cause the throttle cable to fail. The cable has to be aligned with the pedal at the point it passes through the bulkhead, otherwise the inner will kink and eventually fail. Similarly if you adjust the throttle pedal too high the inner will kink at the 'no throttle' position and evenually fail. The final cause is that your engine isn't powerful enough. Obviously the best solution to this is to upgrade the engine, but you can fit a throttle stop instead if you insist.

There's a simple 'get you home' repair that consist of cutting six inches off the outer and using a screw nipple to reattach the inner. As luck would have it there's a suitable screw nice and handy nipple on the heater control valve. You can also use a heavy duty electrical terminal connector in an emergency - loop the wire through a washer and back through the connector to double the grip.
