Not a sausage from the release mech....

Tried the other mechanical route but no access or anything in reach...!

New battery, engine running... Nothing..

Any bright ideas...

From references to the electics I assume you have an electrical release (my old S2 was cable).

Does the relay click when you push the release button?

In that case check fuses first.

If there's nothing obviously wrong, just stick +12v on the relay output and hopefully the solenoid will trip. If you don't know which relay is for the boot release, do them all. If you don't have easy access to 12v supply then your luck is in, because one of those relays has a permanent feed (driving lights I think, but it doesn't matter). So just pull all the relays, go round the sockets in turn taking +12v from terminal 30 and connecting it to terminal 87 on the other relay sockets. When you hit the right combination the solenoid will trigger.

If the battery is flat then the same trick works, but using an external source such as a 9V torch battery.
