Fuel Filler Cap

Anyone know who made the chrome plated fuel filler cap for the S (also used on Scimitar GTE)? Is it still available? Roy Edited by Roy C on Friday 7th September 09:52

They are still available from TVR for about £60, now I am convinced that this is the same cap as the Scimitar uses but I have been told by somebody that after looking at the original blueprints it is not (?????), I was fed up with the duff chrome on mine so I disced it off and painted it body colour which just left the button and hinge in chrome Cheers LeeBee

A definitive answer, courtesy of the RSSOC (thank you Matthew): "The chrome filler cap is still available - Part No S28L 10008. Your nearest TVR dealer should be able to get one for you; if you have any problems the phone no for TVR in Blackpool is 01253 509000. It is identical to the Scimitar SE6a cap because TVR bought the tooling from Reliant. I live in Blackpool so was able to take my old one in to TVR and make sure they were the same. The person who dealt with my enquiry turned out to be someone that I knew years ago when I owned a Sunbeam Alpine. He said that the caps would be produced for the foreseeable future, so if you get the right part number you won't have a problem. I have heard of a couple of mods to make it more secure. One way is to drill and tap the button and fit a bolt which bears against the housing and stops the button being depressed. Fidly but good for peace of mind if the car spends a long time outside. The other way is to drill through the side of the housing, and fit a pin through from inside the boot. The pin stops the catch from moving, you just have to open the boot to fit/remove the pin. Having said that I haven't bothered with either of these. TVRs seem relatively unattractive to vandals, I like to think its because they're fast enough to be desirable but not perceived as a status symbol (in the way that most supercars are).
