Oh dear - What have I done!
Discussion
Picked the S up today from the good folks down at Peninsula, who have laboured mightily and shoe-horned a Cosworth V6 in in place of the 12V. Sadly ran out of time to do a final set up on a R/Road, so don't know if the carbs are set up correctly yet.
She fired up nicely and burbles happily at a couple of hundred rpm less than the old engine, and drives along at revs <3000, in a similar though possibly smoother manner than the old engine.
However.....>3000

. The exhaust note suddenly deepens as the engine comes 'on cam' and she howls along in a very satisfactory and extremely rapid manner. A couple of track day silencers were quickly thrust up the tail pipes, to reduce the attention grabbing noise and save my hearing on long drives, and having just driven back to Hampshire I can say that cruising at A road traffic speeds she is not a lot noisier than the 12V. Only problem is that opening the taps is such a laugh!
Oh well - off to Germany in a couple of weeks so will find out what the limits are!
LeeBee if your reading this all I can say is get on with it!
Still grinning
Cheers

Excellent news graham, look forward to seing the beast, perhaps at one of the Hants/Dorset meets in the not too distant future.
How many ponies is this lump rated at then, if more than 240, are you now going to be changing the rest of the car ala Peter Humphries to match the engine
I understand you're taking it sprinting this season, toyed with the idea myself this year but haven't got around to doing anything about it.

Hi Lee,
No problem, I will no doubt be pedaling up North
in the near future. You'll love the manifolds! Oh and the top secret way of getting the alternator to fit!
Harry I don't know the output yet as we didn't get to do the R/R setup, and I believe there is a 'breathing' issue as Peninsula had to leave the trumpets off the carbs in order to get the bonnet to fit! Probably have to put a 'bulge' in a la V8S! (anyone got a spare bonnet?
)
I suspect that Mr Humphries green machine will still be somewhat faster - particularly if he cleans it as he has threatened recently elsewhere
It'll be interesting to compare torque curves with a V8 though.
Btw are you joining the Dorset mob for the run down to Shepton Mallet or are you heading for the rarified atmos at VW?
Cheers

Probably a lot less now they've done the development on mine!
I should explain that I provided the engine and they removed the old unit and then dropped in the new unit. Along the way there was all sorts of fun to be had such as designing and fabricating bespoke manifolds, fitting high pressure fuel pump and lines, finding a way to fit the alternator, uprated clutch, removing the original ecu and harness and replacing that with the one supplied with the 24V unit, etc.etc.
Seriously though, if you're interested give Richard a call, I'm sure he'd like another headache!
Cheers

Unfortunately I've got the MOT looming and have a few things I need to sort out, so there's no luxuries to be had like driving it at the moment

It was nice to meet you, and yes the car sounded great, however having had a run up to Shepton Mallet with the Dorset TVRCC on Sunday, the 5.0 boys in the convoy were complaining about the noise! So back to Peninsula for some serious exhaust mods I think.
Btw I was sorry to hear about the damage to your Cerbera - you must be gutted, and I hope the other party has admitted liability for the repairs.
Shnozz, I hope to be at the next Dorset or Hampshire meets, but I am losing the car for a couple more weeks while we sort out the bonnet clearance/noise levels.
Cheers
