Dead Ignition on a 2.8 S1
Discussion
The car just cut out at a set of traffic lights and would not restart. There is no spark from the coil although I do appear to have 12v between the low tension wire (+ve side of the coil) and earth.
All fuses are OK but I have found a relay (green) below the water washer bottle on the near side. The connection appears to lead to the distributor but the relay has severly corroded internally and disintegrated.
Ford will not supply a replacement without knowing what it is. I have no Bible (keep getting outbid on ebay evertime one comes up for sale) and the Capri manual I have does not have a wiring diagram for the 2.8!!! - does anybody know what it is and whether it is likely to be my problem?
Any other suggestions greatfully received - I have searched the forums but not found any clues.

The green relay is the hot start module.
This just gives a short burst of extra fuel via the cold start injector for restarting when the motor is hot.
I have unplugged it and not noticed any difference so its probably not that.
If you have 12V on the coil then check the plugged connections to the distributor (just above LHS rocker cover) and the ignition module.
Does the fuel pump run when the engine is cranking? This is the pink relay in the fuse box. This is powered via the 25A fuse (bottom RHS of fuse box) and via the ignition supply 15A fuse (bottom LHS of fuse box).

Thought I'd post the cure just in case anyone else suffers the same problem and searches the forums for answers....
The coil was shot - 12v coming in to +ve and 12v coming out the -ve but no spark from the HT lead.
Replaced coil but car only started and then stopped immediately - car would always start but then immediately stop again.
Further research led to the ballast resistor wire which was no longer working - if it did then I would not get 12v at the +ve terminal on the coil biut around 8-9v.
Replaced ballast resistor wire with a universal ballast block and hey presto I'm back on the road again....
