Right this may seem like a heretical suggestion but I'm trying to think of ways to keep the S. We are due our first baby in about four months time and the lack of a third seat means that the S is in danger of being exchanged for a camper van (under duress you understand. So the options are

1) sell it and buy a cerb (problems being not enough funds and to be honest I prefer the S - wind in the hair etc)
2) sell it and buy a camper van (attractive for surfing, but definately second best)
3) keep it and "thats selfish you know", thankfully I've been given approval for this

Just wondering has anyone .. fitted a baby seat on the parcel shelf?

Jake, it is not safe as there are no secure mounting points so just be selfish and keep it. You will have numerous opportunities to be totally unselfish to the little blighter in the future. Mine are 29, 27 and 25 and I'm still forced to be unselfish but the S stays.

I`m afraid you`re on a slippery slope mate!
once you get a camper van or even an mpv, the other half will want more kids just so you can fill all those empty seats!
then you`ll be waiting until they are 18 plus before you can enjoy the delights of tvr ownership once more!!

People have fitted a baby seat behind the front seats, I am not sure about he mounting procedure though. There was a car in sprint some time ago (Chimera I think), the baby seat was attached to the rollbar from memory.

2. Use the extra money you would have used to buy the Cerbera to get a mondeo or something similar as a family car.

PS with a baby due in a couple of weeks I wouldn't even consider mounting a child seat on the parcel shelf, even if there was a roll bar - there wouldn't be much protection for the little one from the side windows (bits flying up from road, insects etc) and although wind in the hair stuff is fun for us, I don't think a young baby would agree!

yes thats what i had in mind, i havn't got a roll bar at the moment but its the only way i can imagine it would be safe to do it although I agree with longers the lid would have to stay on.

in my opinion it is a bad idea...
I wouldn't even try to fit a child seat. As it has been said above, debris flying from the road and other stuff can be hazardous.
I am not even sure it is legal and in case of an accident (god forbid), the protection might not be enough.

Buy a second hand vectra or mondeo for the wife, that is what I did

I have a 14 month old little girl. I also thought I would have to sell my beloved S on her arrival. I haven't and have no intention of doing so. Look at it this way, and it worked for my wife so you never know.

1) We didn't have a loan to buy it so it doesn't cost us anything on that front
2) It's insured as a classic with limited mileage so is cheap on that front too
3) it's depreciated about as much as it's going to, other purchases may not have.
4) I only tax it for 6 months at a time

All in all other than the fact you can't hawk the little'un about in it there's no reason to shift it on. The only one being if you S is your eveyday car.

I have found I seem to use mine less since her arrival but that just makes it even greater when I do use it.

Go one keep it, you know you want to really. As stated you could always buy a cheap family car with those extra pennies.

As for fitting the seat holder, I personally wouldn't bother, their not in that type of chair for very long and I wouldn't be overly sure on the safety aspect.

thanks for the advice folks, the s stays and due to your touching concern I won't try and araldite a 3rd "seat" to the parcel shelf GRP.

..well I personally wouldn't fit a baby seat to the parcel shelf of an S as you have no roll over protection in the event of a disaster. You'd have to use a Lay flat seat anyway (see the Jane Matrix 360) across it or Baby would be catching flies, but to be honest even lay-flat then you're going to have baby face up into the sun.

I know I sound like an old fart, but once you've got your own offspring, the "it'll do" and "its a bit heath robinson but it should work" ideas on protecting your childs safetly in an accident go out of the window.

Good Plan. I've been through it all with my little one, she's 16 months old now and still not been out in the TVR.. oh and we now have a campervan as well..lol.
