Performance figures...
Discussion
Does anyone know the performance figures for a V8S. I was just wondering how it stands in competition with more modern vehicles.....The honda S2000 for instance. I know it's a completely different kettle of fish, and as such the only similarity is that it's a 2 seat open top sports car, but just interested....
I reckon it's not far off, but I remember thinking when I wellied my BMW E34 M5 against more modern machinery that times have definately moved on, I was disappointed that things had moved on so much.
I know that isn't a factor with the V8S as they have a charm of their own, and yes it isn't an elise in the corners, but makes up for it everywhere else, just a bank holiday chewing the fat moment I suppose, I reckon it would be interesting to try both next to each other.
Official TVR figures are pretty laughable, my 390SE being case in point, allegedly the 390's had 275bhp, but no one I know has ever had that much out of a 390se, and the only one that did so probably was the factory twiddled one. Yes it was quick, but no quicker than the V8S...I guess factory figures are purely guess work

mikes v8 is definately slower than my 390
at a rough guess i recon the v8 was 220 hp ish
it should mangle a honda on sheer grunt alone

Interesting hp...I'm not sure about that, maybe the 390 goes about it in a smoother way, but from the first journey I thought the S had the edge gruntwise, I was very surprised but did think it sprightlier.Time for a RR session, see what its putting out. V8S are so different, as pies is making lots standard another could be making 180bhp standard. A few of the things that was quicker than our V8S was an Evo FQ400 at .130speedunits +. Can't think of much else non TVR wise, the 400 450 chims/griff was pretty much a doddle the std 500's was at a push if standard

Hi Tim.
I assume you mean the V8S I bought from your Dad recently.
I can confirm that the following were not competitive...
Porsche Boxter S
Saab Aero Convertable
BMW M3 Evo (E36)
Chrysler Crossfire
Jaguar XJR
Honda S2000
Audi TT (Not sure which model)
It's always difficult to be sure how much the other driver is trying but those of the above definately seemed to be game. The only real contenders were the M3 and the Jag. I suppose it's all a testament to Harrys work on getting the most from the car. I hasten to add that road conditions were quiet and safe and that the throttle was backed off once speeds had reached X MPH.
Anyway I'm certainly having fun using the car and can assure you it is being looked after.
I'm sure that one day someone will surprise me in something like a modified Citreon 2CV or similar! It'll still be fun.
Steve.

Hi Mike
My V8S developed 210hp and 230ft lbf without any modifications.
I suppose the reason for the loss of power is the high milage (58000)
and because the car has been imported in Switzerland.
My friend owns a S2000. Regarding acceleration they are almost identical.
The S2000 is a little bit faster on curvaceous roads.
I have tested this with the regular 15" an with an old Bridgestone Turanza.
Now I've put on 17" Pirelli PZero Corsa semi sliks.
Regards from Switzerland
