Hi everyone, I am new to TVR and need help (obviously). My S2 starts fine, then goes to a fast idle of 2000rpm, I turn the engine off after 500yds or so and it is fine, then rises again, so that the car idles at 1500 - 2000. The car is less responsive than it should be. The plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm are all new and set correctly, the cable is lubed as are the mechanisms. Any Ideas?
It could be the Throttle Potentiometer.
Try unplugging it to see if it makes any difference.

Or it could be the idle speed control valve (visible in the same photo)

In either case, if it DOES make a difference, you MIGHT NOT have isolated it to that one part - for example, unplugging the TP might make it run better, but only because you're now masking the REAL fault which might be an inlet manifold leak or something else.
It's a start, though, and probably right in the majority of cases - I'm only highlighting that it's not 100% foolproof.
Paid about £60 each for these not long ago, recently bought a spare engine (£5 off ebay) it has both parts on which you suspect, you are quite welcome to borrow them to determine which you need but I want them back to keep as spares.
Before you do , and its a long shot, try taking off the throttle pot and spacing it away from its mounting with an O ring.I have a feeling that as they wear the spindle moves somehow into the pot and affects its tracking, also check the connections to the pot on the new ones they are gold plated for better connections remember these are handling low voltage signal connections only and so any resistance has a large effect.
