A funny thing happened on the way to the forum. Having owned my S for about 5 months now and the rain lashing down outside I thought I would park it in the garage and do a few odds and end to get it right. One bit that has particularly narked me is the fact that the drivers door window didnt wind all the way to the top. So without further ado the spanners, sockets, scredrivers et all came out. After removing the door pannel, not an easy job as you have to have hands as small as a 5 year old to get to the nut inside. I peeked poked wound it up and down, dismantled the winder mechanism and removed the window from the door. I finally in one of those horror moments worked out what it was that was causing me so much grief and feel the need to share it with you all in case a similar situation arrises as Mr Steve Heath nay mentions this in his book.
Inside the door the window goes up and down on two runners, one of them being kind of round with the guide on the inside of it at the back. If you look at the very top of this runner you will either see a whole (now you are in trouble) or the end of a little grub screw operated by an allen key. If you wind the screw up or down it alters where the window stops. Yipee. Trouble is my screw had worked its way down and fallen into the tube! After much cussing I managed to wind it back up and stick some loctite on it. After putting it all back together I reckon it took me 4 hours and 3 plasters. I then went to do the passeneger door, pulled the window rubber to one side at the top stuck my allen key in and it took me 1 minute. A lesson there I am sure.
Now I know most of you will probably know this bit of info already but next time dont keep it to yourselves.
