Clutch replacement on S3

I am about to get mine quoted by a garage in the next couple of days so should be able to tell you then. Theres quite a varied price in clutches themselves though! tvrcarparts want £200+vat but people have mentioned going to a motor factors and getting one for £66 so that should be interesting. Hope i can get one for £66

I did mine myself and really can't see how you'd get the gearbox out without the engine. I pulled the engine and box and then split them on the garage floor.

There's some picture of the process here although they're in no particular order and more to jog my memory as to what went where when I put it all back together.. The only reason they're on t'internet is that Steve Heath asked me for them for vol 3 of the book.

This shows the rough angle the engine comes out at...



...hopefully you can see that the back of the car os on ramps whereas the front of the car is on axle stands so the car is more or less level and also has the ground clearance to get the box down and out. You can leave the manifold on but beware of the straps pulling any 2 downpipes together. I had to remove the dizzy as it fouled at the back of the engine bay so don't forget to mark the dizzy body against the block. The rest was pretty easy.

I had my clutch changed earlier this year, Gugliemi in Daventry managed to change it without taking the engine out. It was done by cutting through the old gearbox mounts, removing just the gearbox, and replacing and fitting new mounts. Give them a call as mine was done in two days!
