I've been aware of a clicking coming from (I think) the gearbox or transmission when accelerating. The noise disappears on overrun. I've blipped the throttle when stationary and there is no clicking coming from the exhaust. Any ideas?

If it sounds like a card flicking against bicycle wheel spokes, it is most probably a manifold gasket. You might not notice it just blipping the throttle, particularly if the blow is on the lower edge.

Hope this helps

If it is that (potentially worse when turning a corner) it's not a major job. I've had them done a couple of times in the past and it's not cost a great deal.

Dont want to worry you,

but depending on the clicking sound, and whether it does get worse when turning. It could be valve spring seals.

I remember having them done on mine a few years ago as it was getting worse during hard acceration, I orignally thought I had gearbox problems

Roy,
I had similar sound on my V8S, turned out (after many different suggestions, from blowing manifold gasket to sticky hydraulic lifter) to be a cracked manifold. Noise not very noticable at start up, gets noisier when warm and clicks badly when engine is put under strain in high gear. The noise disappears on overrun but pops and bangs more than usual due to air entering the exhaust system. The crack in mine was hidden from view between the four pipes where they run together to make an 88 shape.

Roy,

If it is a cracked exhaust manifold or blown gasket it may well not 'click' when you blip the throttle as there isn't a load on the engine, in the same way that a rough running engine might rev quite happily but then die when you try and pull away.
