1/ My steering has developed a notch in it. Fairly sure it's the UJ just inside the engine compartment. Anybody know where to get one(ie Ford or TVR)?.
Is the rack a TVR item or from the Ford parts bin?
2/ Still searching for door ashtray. I was told it was a Mini ashtray
(bought one..it's not)
3/The plastic fell to bits on the seatbelt stalk. Anybody know where I can get one of those?
The list of winter jobs is growing by the day!!

IIRC Its a special - modified Ford part - try cleaning and lubricating with WD40 the UJ first...... works a wonder on my V8S. Its vunerable to road sh1t this time of year.

I fitted peugeot 307 seat belt stalks, they are slightly shorter and don`t dig into you. If your steering is notchy just off of the wheels being straight, try cleaning and re-greasing the u/j`s, mine was like it and now it`s fine.Is the rack a TVR item or from the Ford parts bin?

Just out of interest...When u say a notch how do you mean? Im having a little steering trouble at the moment. Wondering if it could be the same thing?

It tightens up just off centre, left or right & then frees up again with an audible clunk.( exactly as described by Steve). Symptoms were over compensating on the motorway in windy conditions i.e. felt like the car was being blown around a lot more than it was.

Did you have to change the seatbelts or just the stalks?

The top UJ usually wears out first, causing a notchy feel to the steering.
You can prolong the life of it's replacement by fitting a gaiter over it to retain lubricant.
The rack is a modified Chevette item and is no longer available (the company that produced them went bust soon after S production stopped).

What happens if you need a rack
either.Having your rack rebuilt doesn't have to be expensive: I took mine apart, cleaned all the parts and delivered them to a specialist. They charged less than 60 pounds for machining the housing to accept a new bush, fabricating & fitting a bearing bush for the rack, adjustments of the be ball bearings, damper & both ball joints and fitting new gaiters. Those are just about all the parts that can wear out in a steering rack.

I just looked in my cars history and the UJ's were changed at 'Exactly TVR' I guess he could advise or supply.
Also watch for the bulkhead bearing ( I just changed mine ) The tringular steering column passes through the bearing in a Ford collar.
The collar has 3 spacers to keep the triangular tube centered 2 of mine were missing - too much play for Mr MOT man but not sure if it clonked.
